Favorites from Probloggers Top 5 Group Writing Project (Part 4)

This is the last batch of best and most relevant reads from Probloggers Top 5 - Group Writing Project considering the purpose of this blog (read communication, blogging, community, conversation, interaction, etc.). Once more you can learn a whole lot about connecting, communicating and educating yourself:

Top 5 Tips for a Successful Link Train
“I know the link train is a very powerful tool and that it can be optimized even more, but to be honest with you, I’ve come across some pretty agro bloggers who overreacted just a tiny bit if I forgot to exchange a favorite or anything of the sort. If you look at it as just a tool to get backlinks, then you’re not going to succeed. If you look at it as an opportunity to find new blogs while getting some link love, then I think you’ll be just fine.” Very well written post about creating link love from someone who obviously knows what he is talking about. I wouldn’t be mentioning it if I had a problem with the concept, but I still think it is questionable what value it brings. The bloggers may benefit, but what about the readers? Perhaps it would be more beneficial when turned into a meme?

Do You Know These 5 Easy Ways of Making Online Friends?
“Let’s face it, people weren’t meant to be alone. We all need friends. While some people can make five friends in five minutes, some people need much more time to make a friend. Regardless of where you fall, the internet provides a unique opportunity to make friends very easily - all you need are some typing skills.” Most of the content in this post is seen isolated common sense or common knowledge, but what makes valuable is that is collected in one place for you to get an overview. Even if you don’t learn anything new can it serve as a reminder of what you may know, but still somehow managed to forget. I particularly like the last section.

Top 5 Ways To Identify a Bad Listener
“Listening! So few people really know how to listen. Sure… sounds get trapped in the flaps of your ears and travel into the inner workings of your head. You might technically hear and register those trapped sounds. But are you actually listening?” Great question and one that most of us probably have to say no to more often that we care to admit. May this post serve as a waking up call that will make us actually listen when communicating with someone. Hint: You are not merely supposed to actually identify bad listeners, but also to listen to yourself when listening! We would certainly all benefit from it even if it means having to cut down on the number of conversations we have. Perhaps is it time to put quality over quantity again?

Shut Up And Write
“I have writer’s block today. Took a few minutes to get away from the computer; to smell the flowers in my garden, listen to the birds, watch my dog lolloping around. Then a rogue bee came and chased me back inside the house. The stark whiteness of the computer screen is biting at me now. The writer’s block won’t go away, dammit.” Good advice and particularly the last point is worth thinking about. Doing something else may be temporary solutions when writing doesn’t flow, but at some point you simply have to bite the bullet and start writing even if it at first is awful and doesn’t look like what you imagined. Eventually will you again feel it flowing and start writing like you imagine writing should be.

How To Figure Out What To Read Next–Top Five Resources
“My to-be-read stack is pretty massive at the moment, but I’m always looking to add new books to it. But just perusing the shelves at a big bookstore or local library can be daunting, so here’s a list of what I think are the 5 best ways to find books you will be excited about reading.” Useful list. Well written and you will probably find at least one or two ideas to help you find good literature regardless of what and why you read. I also like the emphasis on the matter that not only the latest books are well worth exploring. So are the classics and the many good books from lesser known authors that are published every year.

I hope you enjoy them and welcome your comments below.

Thanks for the mention :) I’m glad you enjoyed the post on bad listeners. And you’re right… I think it’s time to “put quality over quantity”. I’d rather have 1 good conversation than 5 lousy ones any day.

Thanks for the writeup. I’m glad you enjoyed my post, and yes - biting the bullet is the perfect phrase to describe the last point. ^.^
