Favorites from Probloggers Top 5 Group Writing Project (Part 1)
Part of participating in an event like Probloggers Top 5 – Group Writing Project is of course visiting, reading and when relevant commenting and linking to the other participants. With almost 900 entries it has taken me some time to get through them: Top 5 – Group Writing Project – Full Submission List.
A number of sites have chosen to put up the entire list, but since Darren already do that do I not see how that can help anyone. Instead have I picked my favorites and will be linking to them in batches of 5 a piece. Both to stay true to the subject, but also because I personally don’t handle large lists of links well and believe I share this “deficit” with many others.
Having screened the entire list for posts that were relevant to the subject area of this blog (read communication, blogging, community, conversation, interaction, etc.) is this the first batch of recommended reads in no particular order:
When It’s Time to STOP Writing
“When writers are in “the zone” — their stories finally unfold and their characters start speaking in complete, intelligible sentences — it’s easy to disconnect from real life. Here’s a quick guide to knowing when it’s time to turn off the wordy spigot for a bit.” The list is short, but to the point. Well written, and funny.
5 Inspirational Quotes For Conversational Blogging
“… what I’ve done is gathered 5 of favorite quotations and relate them to blogging. Each of these five inspire me in different ways. And while there are thousands of quotes I’ve read (and collected), these are the most interesting ones I could think of” explains Dawud Miracle and lists no less than 8 great quotations and how they can be read with conversational blogging in mind. Great idea and very very well done.
Top 5 Rules For Making Your Blog A Success
Gleb Reys’ “thoughts on non-technical aspects of being a successful blogger”. Good advice if you are a blogging novice and a good reminder if you have experience, but sometimes lose track of the fundamentals.
Five Ways to Grow Your StumbleUpon Network: An Ode to Altruistic Stumbling
“Stripped down to a minimal form, StumbleUpon is a vessel that can be used to support the creativity of others or preserve the value of certain websites which are truly useful to the general public.” Maki is great writer and this post is no different. I am not a stumbler although I ought to be when I read the reasons Maki put up. In fact his current reasoning regarding StumbleUpon resemble mine when it comes to Link lists like this one.
Five essential skills for blogging success
“Through practice you will develop and sharpen skills while making steady progress toward blogging success, whatever that looks like for you. Becoming competent in the five areas described below will support you in achieving your goals regardless of where you’re starting.” Shonnie Lavender’s list (writing skills, design savvy, programming know-how, curious spirit and magnetic vision) is not only fundamental, but also very practical as it lists various resources, making it easy for you to take the next step.
Stay tuned for the next batch of great entries and remember that reading is only the first step. Acting upon what you read is what makes reading worthwhile regardless whether you act by writing, commenting, recommending or something else.
