With more than 70 million blogs already online and around 120,000 new joining every day the Internet is becoming increasingly cluttered and confused. For the good publishers getting heard and for the surfers finding the information and communication they seek is it getting more and more difficult. The result is a polarization that push the extremes further apart and which lets everything in between the small personal journal for the select few and the big established publishers sink somewhat into oblivion.

To be honest I cannot exactly remember when I decided to start blogging, but it was not an overnight decision. I believe the process started with listening to a radio show dedicated to blogging. After looking up some of the blogs mentioned it started snowballing and I jumped from blog to blog through their respective links to other blogs. Slowly it materialized what I was looking for and what consequently was bookmarked namely blogs revolving around communication and reflection.

After a while I found myself bookmarking articles for later use, although I hadn’t consciously decided what that use would be. Reflecting a little bit about it I realized that I had probably unconsciously decided to take things one step further and start blogging myself. Since I have previously started and grown websites it was natural to start thinking about domain name, web host and blogging software.

Because of my varying interests did I find it difficult to get it all under one hat. Hence I decided to make more blogs with different focus. The first one should be about communication and to indicate that it wasn’t supposed just to be read, but also to be talked about and that it wouldn’t simply be about communication, but also about communication about communication the best available name I could find was circular communication indicating communication of the second order.

In fact most of what I know and appreciate about the concept of communication is rooted in systems theory in one form or another and with time it is my goal to make that very clear. However do I need to work a lot more with the concept itself as well as all its implications and related concepts to be able to do that. Not to mention that I need to learn a lot about blogging itself before being able to pull it off in the way that I imagine. With your patience and support this could be a teaching and learning experience for all of us educating each other.

You see, at least as far as what the Blogosphere is concerned this site aim to make a difference. Building communicative bridges between web sites and their visitors, between people like you and me. Both through links highlighting the worthwhile, but also by writing about content as well as form and thus trying to influence the way we communicate. Hence inviting more people to participate in the communication, enabling more and more to communicate and to communicate better and to communicate with the communication itself in mind.

Consequently the idea behind Circular Communication is that summaries, reviews, guides, competitions, solicitations, translations, questions & answers, etc will be woven in a second layer of communication. The aim is thus not just to communicate, but to communicate about communicating and even to communicate about communicating about communicating. Further subjects will be blogging, relation building, meaning, content, presentation, promotion, branding, organization, strategy, readability & usability and more.

Because the of ideas underlying the site do I ask that everyone who can contribute do contribute. Visitors are welcome, subscribers even more so, but if this is to work will at least some of you have to write a comment or perhaps even a post. Every qualified contribution is appreciated and will be duly recognized. Who knows, perhaps can we even achieve what I would consider the greatest success of all namely creating our own community within the greater community, within the greater community, …
